Black Friday: 10 checks to run on your online shop before 27 November
Payment, promo codes, stock, mobile, emails: the 10 checks to run on your shop before Black Friday on 27 November, and over the weekend itself.
Black Friday falls on Friday 27 November, and the weekend runs on to Cyber Monday. A broken cart on those days costs more than on any other day. Many such failures can be spotted in advance, with ten checks.
The 10 checks
- Payment: every method offered is in live mode, and really leads to the provider’s page.
- Promo codes: the Black Friday code applies, and the total is correct.
- Sale prices: they show on the product page, in the cart and in the order summary.
- Stock: a sold-out product is no longer sold, and one variant out of stock does not block the others.
- Shipping: every zone and carrier returns a price, including for a large basket.
- Mobile: on a phone, no pop-up or banner hides the Add to cart button.
- Emails: the order confirmation arrives, outside the spam folder.
- Certificate and domain name: nothing expires over the weekend.
- Hosting: the host knows about the expected peak, and the cache does not serve a stale cart.
- Updates: the last ones no later than the Friday before, then nothing until Cyber Monday, except an urgent security fix.
Place a real test order
Place it on a computer and on a phone, with the promo code, all the way to confirmation. Then cancel and refund it. It is the only way to check the confirmation email and the order in the admin.
Over the weekend: the journey replayed up to payment
The checklist says everything worked on Thursday evening. It says nothing about Saturday afternoon, when a plugin updates itself, a stock level hits zero or the payment provider changes a script. The server still responds, the home page loads, and an uptime tool stays green.
Flow replays the purchase journey in a real browser: it adds a product to the cart, checks that the total is above zero and goes all the way to the payment page. It pays nothing and only enters test values. If a step breaks, you get the alert with a screenshot of the failing step. Lumi recognises WooCommerce, Shopify, PrestaShop, Magento, WordPress, Joomla and Drupal and builds a Flow in under two minutes.
Over the weekend, run the Flow more often. The frequency and run volume of each plan are on the Pricing page.
- Does Flow place a real order?
- No. It goes as far as the payment page and stops there. It pays nothing and only enters test values. Your stock and accounts are untouched.
- Do I need to install anything on the shop?
- No. Flow opens the shop from the outside, like a customer. Pathly modules exist for WordPress, PrestaShop, Joomla, Drupal and Magento, but they are optional.
- Isn’t uptime monitoring enough?
- It tells you whether the server responds. A cart that rejects a promo code or a payment button that leads nowhere both respond normally. Keep Ping for availability, and add Flow on the purchase journey.
- Can I try it without an account?
- Yes. The Flow demo builds a Flow on your shop and replays it in front of you, no account needed. After that, Solo is free, with no card and no time limit.
