Monitor 30 WordPress and WooCommerce client sites without losing your mornings
Opening thirty sites every morning to check they work does not last. Here is how to sort out what needs monitoring, and with which kind of check.
Many agencies start with a routine: open each site, try the form, place a test order. With ten sites it takes half an hour. With thirty it takes the morning. And the day the routine gets skipped is the day the checkout breaks.
Sort sites by what they earn
- WooCommerce shops: cart and payment first.
- Booking or quote sites: the form, all the way to the confirmation message.
- Brochure sites: uptime and the certificate are often enough.
Three levels of monitoring
Ping checks that each site responds, every few minutes. That is the baseline, for all thirty. Flow replays the money journey in a real browser: keep it for the sites where an outage costs sales or leads. Chain checks the API calls behind a site, when the client depends on an outside service.
| Site type | Count | Ping | Flow |
|---|---|---|---|
| WooCommerce shops | 8 | yes | cart → payment |
| Quote or booking sites | 10 | yes | form up to confirmation |
| Brochure sites | 12 | yes | no |
Group sites by client
Put each client's sites in a folder and give them their own status page. Alerts arrive by email, and on paid plans in Slack, Teams or a webhook. Pick one channel for whoever is on call, or nobody reads it.
WordPress and WooCommerce: what breaks silently
- A plugin update that breaks form submission.
- A theme update that hides the Order button on mobile.
- A payment plugin whose key has expired.
- A cookie banner covering a button.
None of these takes the server down. You only see them by going through the journey. Pathly does that from the outside, with no plugin to install on the site.
In the morning, read only what changed
The goal is no longer to open thirty sites but to read a list of alerts, each with a screenshot of the broken step. On days without alerts, there is nothing to do.
- Do I need to install a WordPress plugin?
- No. Pathly visits the sites from the outside, like any visitor. Nothing to install or update.
- Can I test an order without paying?
- Yes. The simplest way is to end the journey on the payment page, after checking that it loads. On a staging site, the payment provider's test mode lets you go further.
- How often should a journey be replayed?
- It depends on the plan: once a day on the free plan, more often on paid plans. For a shop, several runs a day catch an outage before the evening peak.
